Starcraft: it has been the best-selling strategy game of all time and the second best-selling PC game. If you haven’t heard that Starcraft 2 was announced, it’s a good bet that you are living in a cave. There is one piece of information though that even the developers may not know: the Starcraft 2 Release Date. In keeping with the season. As we previously expected, Blizzard is not only preparing the launch of Battle.net 2.0, but also working hard to start closed beta tests of Starcraft 2.This has now been officially confirmed during an earnings call (press reference), where Activision CEO Mike Griffith also confirmed a Call of Duty 7 release in 2010.
Not something of a huge surprise but a really big disappointment to fans everywhere as Blizzard has officially announced the release date will be pushed back to the first half of 2010.
There was a previous delay mentioned in the past due to World of Warcraft’s Lich King taking up more majority of the developement team. Now, the delay is reported to be intact with the relaunch of its upgraded Battle.net service which handles all multiplayer aspects.
In a statement to the Blizzard community, the developer writes “Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game.” Blizzard states the new Battle.net is an “integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward.”
Blizzard has mentioned in the past beta testing will take 4-6 months and if beta were to start in August, they would be on a very tight schedule for release this year. While the anticipiated release of the game was planned for the end of 2009, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime said in May: “But as always, we won’t release it until it meets our standards and the expectations of our players.”
'StarCraft 2' and its coming final and major expansion called 'Legacy of the Void' has yet to arrive, but Blizzard Entertainment, the game's publisher, is wanting to entice gamers to preorder by promising beta access to additional content for the game.
Blizzard recently announced that the final standalone expansion pack is now available for preorder and gamers who will buy the game now will get immediate access to a beta version of 'Whispers of Oblivion,' a three-mission prologue to the final expansion pack.
'Whispers of Oblivion' is supposed to bridge the storyline between the second expansion 'Heart of the Swarm' and the final expansion 'Legacy of the Void.' This was earlier unveiled during the E3 2015. It is said to include new machines and warriors from the different races. It will also feature a mission which involves Dark Templar Zeratul, which is said to be a first.
